Motorcycle Safety Basic Riders Course

To attend these courses you must be at least 15-1/2 years of age or older and must possess either a valid driver’s license, OR an instruction permit, OR have proof of successful completion of the classroom portion of a basic driver’s education program.

This course is offered year-round. It covers: motorcycle control, basic maneuvers, and riding strategies and qualifies for DMV requirements for riders under 21 years of age. Graduates receive a Completion Certificate, decal, and DMV form DL 389, which waives DMV riding test. Motorcycles and helmets are provided. Classes are held behind the District Office, 1299 Bryant Avenue, Mountain View, CA 94040 and meet combined weekdays/weekends for approximately 15-20 hours. Instructors are certified by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.

Fee: $250 for students age 21 and over and $150 for students age 20 and under. Fees subject to change.

Motorcycle Safety: The Experienced Rider Course

This course is designed specifically for experienced motorcyclists who want to improve their riding knowledge and skills. Generally, experienced riders are proficient in basic riding skills - including shifting, turning, and braking, and are those with at least 6 months or 3,000 miles of current riding experience. Students must ride their own motorcycle with stock exhaust system, and show proof of insurance and valid registration. Experienced Rider coursework includes 5 hours of off-street instruction with an orientation to street-safe riding. Fee: $100
